Streaming using Silverlight
The day Silverlight 2.0 is released will be a momentous day. At the moment high-quality presentations over the web requires Flash and while we're OK with Flash, its another technology to learn/support. Meanwhile Microsoft has released WPF (it's what the Vista Aero theme uses) which makes it possible to create great, graphical applications in the .NET environment. Silverlight is a cut-down WPF that can be used to present rich content in web browsers including Safari and Firefox as well as IE. Novell are working to make a version called Moonlight available on Linux and MacOS platforms based on Mono. Scott Guthrie's blog has more information about Silverlight and there should be some announcements at Mix 08 in March.
In the meantime, this post is really to provide a link to an article on Code Project that shows how to use the current version of Silverlight (1.0) to deliver streaming videos. Since we already use Camtasia, the only change is to the encoder settings used and surrounding packaging.
